Classes have been canceled and mid-term examinations deferred for 10 days at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, in the wake of violent protests by students triggered by reports on social media of rape and suicide of a female student. The university authorities and the police, who termed the reports false and rumors, stated that they were made in an attempt to blacken the image of the university, despite the fact that later on in the video denying these reports by the university authorities, the students claimed that they were tutored on what to say.
